  • Saudi Arabia reported 1,833,164 participants in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, including international and domestic pilgrims
  • The majority of pilgrims, over 1.5 million, arrived via air travel, with smaller numbers entering through land and seaports

Saudi Arabia has announced that 1,833,164 Muslims took part in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage. According to a report from the Saudi Press Agency, this number includes 1,611,310 international pilgrims and 221,854 domestic pilgrims, comprising citizens and expatriates.

As cited by the agency, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) detailed that of these pilgrims, 958,137 were male and 875,027 were female. The report further delineated the origins of the pilgrims: 22.3% from Arab countries, 63.3% from Asian countries excluding Arab nations, 11.3% from African countries excluding Arab nations, and 3.2% from Europe, America, Australia, and other unspecified countries.

The majority of pilgrims, exceeding 1.5 million, traveled by air. Specifically, 1,546,345 pilgrims arrived via Saudi airports, while 60,251 entered through land ports and 4,714 through seaports.

“GASTAT provided comprehensive statistical data for the 2024 Hajj season, sourcing information primarily from administrative records,” the agency stated. The Hajj Statistics Bulletin offers insights into the total pilgrim count categorized by gender, nationality, and mode of transportation.
