Lamine Yamal of Spain has etched his name in European football history as the youngest player to feature in a men’s European Championship. The 16-year-old forward from Barcelona debuted yesterday in Spain’s Euro 2024 group match against Croatia.

Despite his tender age of 16 years and 338 days, Yamal was already on his eighth appearance for the Spanish national team. His journey began when he became Spain’s youngest player and youngest goalscorer during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia last September.

Yamal surpasses the previous record holder, Poland’s Kacper Kozlowski, by approximately nine months. Kozlowski was 17 and 246 days old when he participated in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
