  • PDP accuses APC Chairman Tony Okocha of instigating a crisis in Rivers State to undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s election
  • PDP calls for Inspector General of Police to question Okocha, claiming his statements pose a threat to democracy in Rivers State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Tony Okocha, the Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, of instigating a crisis in the state. The PDP alleges that Okocha is working to undermine the people’s will, as expressed in the recent governorship election, which resulted in the election of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The PDP has called on the Inspector General of Police to question Mr. Okocha, asserting that his statements pose a clear danger to the state and the country. Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, stated that Okocha’s “reckless outburst” reveals a sinister plot by the APC in Rivers State to instigate a crisis, overthrow a democratic order, and impose an anti-democratic regime. This, Ologunagba noted, would violate Section 1, sub-section 2 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, 1999 (as amended).

Ologunagba highlighted Okocha’s use of the word “war” as indicative of an evil intention, which has been and will continue to be resisted by the people of Rivers State. He emphasized that the APC’s scheme to take over the state forcibly has failed, asserting that Rivers State is a stronghold of the PDP and that the people are firmly behind the PDP-led government.

The PDP has urged the federal government and the national leadership of the APC to rein in Tony Okocha urgently and caution him to prevent him from being an agent of destabilization and a threat to democracy in Nigeria. They also called for the Inspector General of Police to hold Okocha personally liable for his statements, which they believe endanger the sustainability of democracy and the peace and tranquillity of Rivers State.
