  • NCDMB highlights Ubeta Field Project’s potential to boost economy through job creation, emphasizing local content and developmental benefits
  • Executive Secretary Ogbe stresses the project’s significance, including gas production for NLNG and socio-economic growth opportunities across sectors

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has highlighted that the Ubeta Field Development Project, undertaken by TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), will significantly boost job creation and stimulate the economy.

Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, emphasized this during the signing of the Final Investment Decision (FID) by project stakeholders and contractors. He noted that approving the final stages of the Nigerian Content Plan for the project was among his first actions upon assuming office in December 2023.

The Ubeta Field Development Project, located under Oil Mining Licence (OML) 058, aims to produce 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd) starting in 2027. Situated approximately 80 kilometres northwest of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the facility will supply gas to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Train-7 Project in Finima, Bonny Island.

Ogbe projected substantial job creation, emphasizing that the project’s Nigerian Content Plan and associated agreements prioritize local content, man-hours, and expenditure within the country. He highlighted additional benefits like capacity building, research and development opportunities, and growth in ancillary sectors like banking, insurance, and legal services.

This initiative aims to accelerate project development, increase oil production, and enhance the national economy.

The signing ceremony marks a significant milestone towards realising the Ubeta Field Development Project and its anticipated socio-economic impacts across Nigeria.
