  • Femi Adesina shared his emotional conflict about leaving his role at The Sun to join President Buhari’s administration
  • Adesina highlighted his initial fears and sacrifices, emphasizing his decision to serve Buhari despite earning less than at his previous job

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has shared an emotional story about his initial hesitation to serve under the former president.

On Saturday, during a book reading session in Ibadan for his book titled, Working With Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015 – 2023), Adesina opened up about his experience. The event was organized by Purplebloom Publishers, Ibadan Tech Expo, Safari Books, and Wells Radio Ibadan and hosted by Michael Olatunbosun, a broadcast journalist and book reviewer.

According to the Tribune, Adesina read excerpts from his 488-page book to reveal the “Buhari software, not the hardware.” He focused on Buhari’s personal attributes and motivations rather than just his political actions.

Adesina recounted his deep emotional conflict when Buhari first asked him to join his administration. At the time, he was the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspaper. He described his fear of the unknown and difficulty leaving a familiar job for a new challenge.

“What would I meet there? What if I did not like it? I did not want to leave my job, but it was too late to backtrack,” Adesina said.

He also mentioned that he had promoted Buhari since 2003 as an honest and transparent man. Serving Buhari was his sacrifice and contribution to the country’s development, even though the pay was one-third of what he earned at The Sun.

Adesina’s story highlights the emotional journey and sacrifices involved in his decision to serve under President Buhari.
