  • The NFF leadership is considering bypassing its technical committee to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles directly
  • Prominent coaches like Herve Renard and Marc Brys have been linked to the Super Eagles head coach position

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership is reportedly considering bypassing its technical committee to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles directly. This approach mirrors the actions of former NFF president Amaju Pinnick, who directly engaged both Gernot Rohr and Jose Peseiro before the technical committee approved their appointments.

Prominent names such as former Zambia and Morocco coach Herve Renard, and current Cameroon coach Marc Brys, have been linked to the vacant Super Eagles head coach position. These candidates are in addition to those who applied for the role in March.

Sources indicate that a key member of the NFF president’s inner circle is in Germany seeking a new coach for Nigeria.

Earlier this month, Sports Minister John Enoh directed the NFF to reorganize its technical committee and department. Following this directive, the NFF’s technical committee shortlisted five foreign coaches for consideration: Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera. However, they were then instructed to consider a local coach.

Despite this, the NFF has announced its intention to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers commence in September.
