  • SSANIP urged President Tinubu to fulfill his promise of a living wage for Nigerian workers, emphasizing economic challenges
  • The association expressed concern over slow consultations on the New National Minimum Wage law and deteriorating security in Nigeria

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fulfil his pledge to provide Nigerian workers with a living wage, which he made upon assuming office last year.

This charge was made in a communique jointly signed by SSANIP President Comrade Philip A. Ogunsipe and Secretary Comm. Nura Shehu Gaya after their 72nd General Executive Council meeting in Auchi, Edo State.

The council expressed disappointment with the slow progress in consultations between federal and state governments regarding the conclusion of the New National Minimum Wage law, which is set to expire on April 18, 2024. They also voiced concern over the economic crisis gripping the country, exacerbated by high inflation rates that have diminished the purchasing power of workers’ salaries, making survival a challenge for many Nigerians.

SSANIP further highlighted their unease with the country’s prevailing security situation, urging the government to take decisive action to address it.
