  • The Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs were not dismissed.

Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed his entire cabinet in response to widespread protests against the government.

He excluded the prime cabinet secretary and cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs.

In a television broadcast on Thursday, Ruto said the decision was taken “ater a holistic appraisal of the performance of my cabinet and its achievements and challenge”.

The move comes after a controversial finance bill sparked nationwide demonstrations in June, which turned violent when protesters stormed parliament and targeted businesses linked to lawmakers.

President Ruto said he made the decision after reflecting on the people’s concerns and evaluating his cabinet’s performance.

He announced plans to engage in consultations to form a broad-based government aimed at addressing Kenya’s debt, creating jobs, reducing waste, and combating corruption.

This new government, according to Ruto, would help him develop “radical programmes” to tackle the country’s challenges.
