  • Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, revealed that the house he stays in in Abuja is not his personal property
  • Dangote said his passion for industrializing Nigeria is why he doesn’t own houses outside the country, except in Lagos and his home state Kano

Africa’s richest man, Mr Aliko Dangote, has revealed that the house he stays in whenever he is in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, is not his personal property.

During a Sunday media parley at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, Dangote said his passion for an industrialized Nigeria is the sole reason he doesn’t own houses outside the country. He disclosed that he once had a house in London but sold it in 1996.

“I don’t have a London or America house because I wanted to focus on industrialization in Nigeria. I figured that if I had those houses, there would be one reason or another for me to visit those places, thereby causing a distraction for me.

“I am very passionate about the Nigerian dream, and apart from my Lagos house, I have another one in my home state, Kano and a rented one in Abuja,” he revealed.

In her closing remarks, the Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations, Fatima Dangote, commended Mr. Dangote for never giving up on the Nigerian dream.

“I have not seen anyone as hardworking as my father; sometimes I wonder how he never gives up. I wish we had a few more men like my father in Nigeria; the country would be a better place,” she said.
