  • Sanwo-Olu said that the state plans to venture into air transportation.
  • The chairman of CIG Motors, Diana Chen, expressed her excitement and honor to partner with the Lagos state government.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, oversaw the signing of a significant joint venture partnership between IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited.

The Lagos governor spoke at the signing and flag off ceremony at government house in Alausa, Ikeja.

The agreement aims to bolster the state’s transportation system by acquiring 5,000 brand new vehicles for the LAGRIDE fleet.

Sanwo said that in the coming weeks, the state is expected to receive 2,000 units of the new vehicles in the first phase, with the remaining vehicles to be delivered in tranches.

He added that notably, 1,000 of the new fleet will consist of electric vehicles, demonstrating the state’s commitment to reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and minimizing carbon footprint.

“Our new fleet will have 1,000 electric vehicles, demonstrating a commitment to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and pruning the carbon footprint.

Recall that Sanwo-Olu launched the LAGRIDE initiative in 2022, introducing 1,000 brand new cars and mini SUVs to provide commuters with better transportation options and riding convenience.

“We launched our first LAGRIDE initiative in 2022 with 1,000 brand new cars and mini SUVs, giving commuters better transportation options and riding convenience,” he said.

The vehicles are designed to operate on low carbon emissions, leveraging improved technological interaction and energy transition.

Speaking further, the governor said the partnership extends beyond e-hailing taxi services, also initiating carpooling services, chauffeur services, and tech-driven logistics services.

He said the collaboration with CIG Motors has been mutually beneficial, and the state encourages other private players in the transportation sector to develop schemes that enhance mobility in Lagos.

“Our relationship with CIG has been mutually beneficial, and we urge other private players in the transportation sector to key into the market and initiate schemes that would enhance mobility in the State.

“We are interested in seeing Lagos live up to its potential as a city operating an international standard, environmentally sustainable, and smart mobility system deserving of its status,” he said.

He, however, expressed the state’s desire to see Lagos operate an international standard, environmentally sustainable, and smart mobility system, deserving of its status.
