The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed for allegedly robbing residences around his duty station, ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.

The arrest occurred on Sunday.

SP William Aya, the Public Relations Officer, informed journalists on Tuesday in Lokoja that the officer’s arrest followed the activities of a notorious gang of armed robbers specializing in stealing household items and cars.

“The car was found in the workshop of the policeman’s panel beater, Arome Moses, who was already working on changing the car’s colour at Ochadamu near Anyigba in the eastern part of the state,” Aya said.

Witnesses recognized the vehicle, which had been reported stolen during a robbery on 14 June 2024, and raised the alarm. The car’s plate number had been changed to an Abuja number, and the officer presented a backdated car dealer’s receipt from 2020 as evidence of purchase.

“The panel beater had primed the car for a colour change before the alarm was raised,” Aya added.

Following the alarm, the Quick Response Unit attached to the Police Area Command was dispatched, leading to the arrest of the panel beater.

One gang member, already wanted by police for other crimes, confessed and identified Inspector Mohammed as the mastermind. He revealed that they were contracted to rob the house specifically to obtain the car for the officer.
