  • Despite efforts by Governor Zulum and Nigerian officials to resolve the matter, Indian authorities have insisted on prosecuting the case as a crime against the state

Umar Zulum Umara, son of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, has been arrested in India for allegedly killing a Chinese national during a fight over a woman at a nightclub.

SaharaReporters report that Umara, a student in New Delhi, reportedly smashed a bottle on the Chinese man’s head during the altercation.

The incident occurred two weeks ago while Governor Zulum was attending a post-insurgency workshop in Pakistan alongside the governors of Adamawa and Yobe states.

A source close to the family revealed that Governor Zulum had a similar incident in his youth, involving the death of a man during a fight.
