Nigeria Police recall officers from VIP duty ahead of protests

The Nigeria Police Force has recalled 30 inspectors and rank-and-file personnel from duties protecting Very Important Personalities (VIPs) to bolster its operations ahead of the planned #EndBadGovernance protests.

According to a memo signed by SP Anas Mohammed, S/O DOPS (Department of Operations, SHQ Owerri), and dated July 29, 2024, with reference number AB: 4087/IMS/DOPS/SO/VOL.1/443, the redeployment is in preparation for the upcoming nationwide protests.

The officers are required to report to the office on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The memo specifies, “Change of posting: The posting of the following officers have been effected/changed WEF Tuesday 30/07/2024 by 0800HRS; to APC chairman: Inspr Orok Sunday & Inspr Tedei Dezeigha; to Star Arrival: Inspr Richard Kalayo; to Fendoz: Inspr Zeruwa Nwaoba; to Olisleek: Inspr Igbo Kizitto.”

It continues, “In view of the upcoming planned nationwide protest, COMPOL DOPS directs that the following inspectors and rank-and-file are to report to the office from Thursday 01/08/2024 by 0700HRS in clean service dress till a stand down order is given.”

The list of affected officers includes: Inspr Jonas Njoku, Inspr Emmanuel Sunday, Inspr Longlife Inikio, Inspr Ogbuji Friday, Inspr Mbara Udochukwu, Inspr Theophilus Kalanwa, Inspr Ogah Alexander, Inspr James Ubong, Inspr Nwadi Vitalis, Inspr Ajogwu Valentine, Inspr Chigozie Nkwopara, Inspr Atumaka Abraham, Inspr Topman Ayebakepreye, Inspr Morgan Ntogo, Inspr Ifeanyi Okechukwu, Inspr Joseph Barikpoa, Inspr Walter Orisa, Inspr Nwakuna Chika, Inspr Oduputa Augustine, Inspr Christian Aguwa, Inspr Isah Musa, Inspr Salami Victor, Inspr Obinna Nwachuiwu, Inspr Mbamalu Sunday, Inspr Alex Osikei, Inspr Micheal Utokubo, Inspr Anyanwu Bright, Inspr Amadi Justus, Inspr Chukwuemeka Iwerumo, and Cpl Cheta Onyemaechi.

“This is for your strict compliance, please,” the memo reiterated.
