Kerosene price increased to N1,555 per litre in June – NBS

The average retail price of a litre of kerosene paid by consumers increased to N1,555.11 in June, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed.

The agency made the disclosure in its kerosene price watch released on July 29.

According to the document, there was an increase of 7.22 percent compared to N1,450.35 recorded in May.

“On a year-on-year basis, the average retail price per litre of the product rose by 25.73% from N1,236.91 in June 2023,” NBS said.

On state profile analysis, the bureau said the highest average price per litre in June was recorded in Kaduna at N2,072.92, followed by Benue at N2,038.99 and Zamfara at N1,833.33.

It said the lowest price was recorded in Kebbi at N1,248.15, followed by Taraba at N1,277.60 and Sokoto at N1,300.00.

NBS said analysis by zone showed that the north-central recorded the highest average retail price per litre of kerosene at N1,686.97, followed by the north-west at N1,589.68, while the north-east recorded the lowest at N1,416.13.

The bureau said the average retail price of a gallon of kerosene rose to N5,698.68 in June, indicating an increase of 9.66 percent from N5,196.69 in May.

“On a year-on-year basis, this increased by 33.49% from N4,269.13 in June 2023,” the bureau added.

NBS said in state profile analysis, Kano and Sokoto recorded the highest average retail price of kerosene at N7,500.00, followed by Kaduna at N7,250.00 and Katsina at N7,100.00.

It said Rivers state recorded the lowest price at N3,200.00, followed by Niger at N4,290.10 and Delta at N4,471.43.

According to the bureau, analysis by zone showed that the north-west recorded the highest average retail price of kerosene per gallon at N6,899.49, followed by the north-east at N6,155.96, while the south-south recorded the lowest at N4,621.95.
