Edo Governorship: PDP Challenges APC Candidate, Others To Debate

• The PDP campaign council challenged APC candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo to a debate with their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of elections
• Rev. Olu Martins emphasized Ighodalo’s readiness to govern, criticizing the APC for lacking substantial campaign materials and not presenting a manifesto

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign council has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to participate in a debate ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State. Rev. Olu Martins, the deputy director general of the campaign council, issued this challenge while addressing journalists in Benin yesterday.

“We are challenging the APC candidate and others to a debate with our candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The Edo NUJ is organizing one, and we hope the APC candidate and others will attend the debate with our candidate,” Martins stated.

Martins emphasized that the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has shown the readiness and capability to govern the state. He claimed that the APC lacks substantial campaign material and noted that Ighodalo is the only candidate with a manifesto among those running for the election.

“They should analyze where Edo was during the administration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the eight years of Governor Godwin Obaseki, who has transformed several sectors,” Martins added. “Edo State will never go back. We will not relinquish power to people who lack sagacity and capacity and have no manifestos.”
