Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 26, and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 24, have been extradited from Nigeria to the United States to face charges related to sexual extortion and the death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Aina is facing charges of cyberstalking, interstate threats to injure reputation, and receiving proceeds of extortion. Both Aina and Abiodun are charged with wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.
In a statement on Monday, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced the extradition of the two suspects. They were arrested in Nigeria and taken into custody by the FBI on July 31, 2024.
“Their extradition to the United States was facilitated by the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and the FBI, with significant support from Nigerian security authorities,” Romero stated. She highlighted the contributions of Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Aina and Abiodun appeared in federal magistrate court in Philadelphia before U.S. Magistrate Elizabeth T. Hey on Friday, August 2. If convicted, Aina faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, while Abiodun faces up to 40 years.
The case, investigated by the FBI and the Abington Township Police Department, is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown. Romero emphasized that an indictment or criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
