  • Plymouth Argyle head coach Wayne Rooney warned players that poor performances, like the 4-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday, will lead to exclusion.
  • Rooney expressed disappointment over the team’s lack of basic skills, emphasizing the need to improve tackling and aggression in the future

Plymouth Argyle head coach Wayne Rooney has warned his players sternly following their heavy 4-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in their opening match. Rooney, who was taking charge of the club for the first time, expressed frustration over the team’s poor performance, particularly their lack of offensive threat, as they failed to produce a decent shot on target.

Rooney, the former England captain, said such a performance would not be tolerated again. He warned that any players who repeat this level of play would not get another chance to feature in the team.

This match marked Rooney’s third managerial role in the second tier, following his stint with Derby County and a brief tenure at Birmingham City, where he was dismissed in January after securing just two wins in 15 games. The pressure is now on Rooney to demonstrate his managerial abilities and translate his successful playing career into coaching success.
