  • The LG election will take place on September 21
  • The polls will be conducted across 305 wards and 4,758 polling units in the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state has set August 22, 2024, as the date for its primary election preceding the local government elections.

This announcement was made public by MacDonald Ebere, the State Chairman, on behalf of the State Executive Committee.

Ebere assured that the party has taken every necessary precaution to ensure a fair and transparent process, and he encouraged contestants to behave with respect and dignity throughout.

The party also declared that its executive members will automatically serve as delegates in the upcoming primary election.

However, a growing number of grassroots members are advocating for all registered members to have a say in the process.

They believe that this increased participation will lead to a more just and equitable outcome in the primaries.

In a similar vein, Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, the party’s State Organizing Secretary, has advised aspirants to connect with their local supporters.

He promised that the process will be conducted in a way that is acceptable to all.

Umeh also highlighted that the party has a support system in place for those who do not succeed in the primaries.

He emphasized that the party’s primary focus is to succeed in the main elections.

In a related development, Charles Ejiogu, the Chairman of Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, announced on June 20 that the local government election will take place on September 21.

The election will be held across 305 wards and 4,758 polling units in the state.
