  •  The Kano APC chairman Abdullahi Abbas calls for EFCC to freeze local council accounts to prevent further financial mismanagement.
  •  Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s claim of being unaware of the contract raises concerns about his leadership.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state has demanded a thorough investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into a medical supply contract awarded to 44 local governments in the state.

In a statement, the APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, called for the EFCC to freeze the accounts of local councils in Kano to prevent further financial mismanagement in the name of joint projects.

Abbas said that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent statement, in which he claimed to be unaware of the contract, raises serious concerns about his leadership abilities and control over the state’s affairs.

He explained that going by his antecedents the chairman of the commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado is partisan and lacked the power to investigate Complaints involving the immediate family members of the governor’s father in-law.

Abbas noted that the scandal is the latest in series of financial recklessness allegedly involving officials of the NNPP government.

The chairman said there were still financial allegations that are either not probed or not properly investigated involving government, its officials and appointees.

He said these included diversion and repackaging of palliatives by a political appointee attached to Cabinet Office, sale of government properties at Radio Kano, missing funds at Abubakar Rimi Television, illegal sale of palliatives at the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, and the alleged case of diversion of palliatives traced to the private residence of a top government officials in the Governor’s office.
