A Nigerian soldier has been arrested in Borno State for allegedly possessing illegal ammunition. Sergeant Saad Adamu, with service number 05NA/56/385, was found with 485 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two magazines hidden in cartons of dry fish, according to military sources.

The arrest took place at Njimtilo along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road. A military report indicates that Adamu, who was attached to the 3 Division Ordnance Services (3 DOS) in Jos, had traveled to Maiduguri without official clearance.

During preliminary investigations, Adamu confessed that he obtained the ammunition from another soldier, Sergeant Dalhatu Murtala, the armourer of the 19 Brigade.

The recovered items are currently in the custody of the 7 Division Provost Group for further investigation. The military situation in the area is described as “calm but unpredictable,” with troop morale and operational efficiency said to be “satisfactory.”
