Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, a former chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has died at the age of 90.

Born on October 27, 1933, Justice Ayoola studied law at the University of London and Oxford University, and was called to the English Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1957. He later practiced law in Ibadan, Oyo State, for 17 years.

In 2005, he was appointed chairman of the ICPC, a position he held until 2008.

During his tenure, he advocated for stricter penalties for corruption, including life imprisonment without remission for acts that hindered government efforts to combat corruption.
