The Osun Police Command has taken into custody a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist accused of committing a heinous crime against a female passenger.

During a press briefing at the state police headquarters in Osogbo, Police Spokesperson SP Yemisi Opalola revealed the suspect’s arrest.

Opalola disclosed that the suspect, who operates in the Ile-Ife area, allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted a passenger he had picked up from the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus.

The incident occurred on July 26 at approximately 7:05 p.m., when the complainant hired a commercial motorcyclist (whose name has been withheld) to transport her from the OAU Campus to Moro Town.

According to Opalola, the suspect deviated from the agreed route and stopped in a secluded bush near the RCC junction on the Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, where he robbed the passenger of her valuables.

These stolen items included an iPhone XS Max, a Samsung Galaxy A71, an Airtel Wi-Fi device, and a cash sum of N20,000.

Furthermore, the suspect allegedly subjected the victim to sexual assault without her consent and inflicted physical harm by cutting her hair.

Opalola stated that the victim received medical attention at the Police Hospital in Osogbo, while the investigating team apprehended the suspect.

In a separate development, Opalola announced the arrest of a suspect linked to a stolen mini bus that was brought from Lagos to Osun for dismantling.

Additionally, another suspect, believed to be a member of the notorious Black Axe/Aye confraternity, was apprehended for terrorizing the Osogbo metropolis and its environs.

Opalola said that this suspect robbed a store, injured the owner and customers, and stole two iPhones.

Moreover, a suspected member of the Black Axe confraternity, known by the alias ‘Devil’, was arrested following a cult clash in Osogbo.

Opalola concluded by stating that all suspects will face prosecution after the completion of investigations, and urged the public to provide information to help combat criminal activities.
