  • Manuel Neuer announces his retirement from international football after earning 124 caps, concluding a distinguished 15-year career with Germany
  • Neuer, a key player in Germany’s 2014 World Cup victory, will continue his club career with Bayern Munich after retirement

Germany’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has retired from international football. The 38-year-old, a key player in Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad, earned 124 caps for his country. His last appearance for Germany was in their Euro 2024 quarter-final defeat by Spain.

Neuer made his international debut in 2009 and featured in eight major tournaments. He played a crucial role in Germany’s World Cup final victory over Argentina in Brazil. He was named the team’s captain before the 2018 World Cup, a position he held until earlier this year when Ilkay Gundogan took over.

This week, Gundogan also announced his retirement from international football, following the recent retirement of midfielder Toni Kroos after Germany’s Euros campaign. Despite stepping down from international duties, Neuer will continue his club career with Bayern Munich, where he recently signed a contract extension to remain until 2025.
