  • Joao Felix’s plaque at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium was defaced by fans upset over his transfer to Chelsea for £42.7 million
  • Despite scoring 34 goals, Felix struggled to justify his £115 million transfer fee, leading to significant financial loss for Atletico

Fans defaced a plaque bearing Joao Felix’s name outside Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium after his transfer to Chelsea.

Felix, who joined Atletico from Benfica in July 2019 for a record fee of around £115 million, became the most expensive player in the club’s history. Despite scoring 34 goals at Atletico, he struggled to justify his high transfer fee. His recent move to Chelsea, for £42.7 million, led to Atletico accepting a significant financial loss on the player.

Following the confirmation of Felix’s transfer to Stamford Bridge, fans have expressed their discontent. The area around Felix’s plaque on the Walk of Legends was found covered with litter, including cigarette butts and empty beer cans, indicating the fans’ frustration with his departure.
