  • The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared that governor Duoye Diri of the PDP garnered a total of 175,196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the APC who polled 110,108 votes.
  • In a unanimous judgment the appeal dismissed by the Supreme Court for lacking merit.

Bayelsa State’s election outcome has been solidified with the Supreme Court’s endorsement of Senator Douye Diri’s win.

Timipre Sylvia’s appeal, filed on behalf of the APC, was deemed unworthy and an abuse of the judicial process by the Supreme Court on Friday.

The apex court’s unanimous verdict echoed the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Election Petition Tribunal, reaffirming Diri’s reelection.

The Court of Appeal had previously validated the Tribunal’s ruling on July 18, 2024, dismissing the APC’s appeal.

A three-member panel of the appellate court rejected Sylva and APC’s bid to overturn the Tribunal’s decision.

The Justice Adekunle Adeleye-led tribunal had earlier dismissed the petition against Diri’s reelection due to a lack of substantial evidence on May 27, 2024.

Sylva and APC failed to provide convincing evidence to support their claims of electoral irregularities, leading to the tribunal’s dismissal.
