  • Olukoyede praised the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” initiative

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has emphasized that while Nigerians are generally good people, the country operates a system that enables fraud to thrive.

He made this remark during a visit by a delegation from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

Olukoyede praised the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” initiative, expressing optimism about the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability. “The five minutes of interaction with the MD left me with a different perception of NDDC. I want to congratulate and thank you for your readiness to bring change,” he said.

The EFCC chairman stressed the importance of integrity in public office, urging officials to always remember that their time in power is temporary and that accountability will follow. “Always have it at the back of your mind that while you are on this side today, you might be on the other side tomorrow,” he warned.

Olukoyede reiterated that the problem in Nigeria is not the people but a system that lacks strict regulatory structures. He noted, “If you take the same Nigerian who is corrupt in our system to an environment with strict regulatory compliance and structures, you will discover that he will behave.”

The visit was reported in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by NDDC’s Corporate Affairs Director, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.
