  • The establishment of these centres aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria

The Federal Government has revealed plans to establish Schools of Nursing at the newly created Federal Medical Centres (FMCs) in Epe, Lagos State, and Misau, Bauchi State.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday in Abuja while presenting appointment letters to the acting medical directors of both centers, Dr. Adeleke Kaka for FMC Epe and Dr. Rufa’i Dachi for FMC Misau.

Dr. Alausa emphasized the significance of these institutions in advancing national healthcare goals, highlighting their role in training healthcare professionals and addressing the shortage of medical personnel. The establishment of these centres aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Tinubu had earlier approved the creation of three FMCs, including one in Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State. These centres are intended to provide specialized healthcare services, attract skilled professionals, and promote advanced medical research.

Dr. Alausa reiterated that this development demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and affordability. He noted that these centres would ease the pressure on existing medical facilities by catering to over one million residents in the regions they serve.

This initiative also aims to boost the healthcare workforce by producing more trained professionals through the new Schools of Nursing associated with the FMCs.
