  • The LP governorship candidate added that he faced a significant trust deficit as a new politician, due to people’s past negative experiences.
  • Akpata added that, if elected, his administration will focus on four key areas: electricity, agriculture, security, and education and health, to drive development and improve the lives of citizens.

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Edo state, has attributed the state’s issues to a leadership vacuum.

During an Arise TV interview on Tuesday, Akpata denounced the current PDP government in Edo, labeling it “wicked and irresponsible.”

Akpata cited successful governance in states like Abia and Anambra as proof of effective leadership’s significance.

He expressed dismay at the state’s decaying infrastructure, likening Uhiele grammar school in Esan LGA to a “war zone.”

“Everything rises and falls on leadership, and it is the absence of leadership that has put us where we are. We have been victims of irresponsible leadership,” he stated.

Akpata said he joined the Labour Party due to its logo, which represents the party’s focus on people.

He emphasized that democracy’s core definition prioritizes people, but governments have neglected this aspect.

Akpata stressed that leadership is the primary issue and that a leader must take charge to serve the people.

After touring Edo state five times, Akpata observed a consistent pattern of neglect and abdicated leadership.

Akpata criticized the current PDP government in Edo, calling it “wicked” and “irresponsible,” and expressed disappointment in the neglect.

He said was astonished by the PDP candidate’s attempt to distance himself from the government he served for almost eight years.

Akpata learned that leadership is crucial and that good leadership can make a difference, as seen in Abia and Anambra states.

As a new politician, Akpata faces a significant trust deficit due to people’s past negative experiences.

“My first challenge as a new politician is confronting people who don’t believe anymore. The trust deficit is so wide,” he said.

Akpata compared people’s distrust to seeking the original sin, citing years of neglect and lumping all politicians together.

He emphasized the need to educate people and establish trust, acknowledging risks but highlighting the importance of pedigree and track records.

Akpata pointed out individuals who have switched parties, wearing different jerseys, and urged people to evaluate their actions.

If elected, Akpata’s administration will focus on four key areas: electricity, agriculture, security, and education and health, to drive development and improve citizens’ lives.
