Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has condemned a viral video on social media that calls for the poisoning of Yoruba and Benin people.

The group has urged security agencies to trace and prosecute those responsible.

The video, posted on TikTok by a user identified as Amaka Patience Sunnberger, calls for Igbos to poison Yoruba and Edo people.

In response, Ohanaeze, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, initially dismissed the video as the work of a “deranged psychopath” but addressed it due to public concern.

Ohanaeze questioned the authenticity of the woman’s identity, stating she does not represent Igbo values of thoughtfulness and discretion.

The organisation emphasized that such actions would harm Igbos themselves, given their integration across Nigeria.

Ohanaeze also highlighted the shared cultural and historical ties between the Igbo, Edo, and Yoruba communities and condemned the video as an attempt to sow discord. They reassured their Yoruba and Edo counterparts that the threats should be dismissed and called on security agencies to take action.
