The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese company Mutual Commitment Company Limited for the assembly of electric tricycles and the establishment of a renewable energy training centre.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday during a ceremony in Beijing, facilitated by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The event, which took place on the eve of the African-China Co-operation Summit, was attended by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Managing Director of REA, Mr. Abba Aliyu.

In a statement from Adelabu’s spokesman, Bolaji Tunji, the Minister expressed the significance of the agreement, noting that it marks a memorable day for Nigeria.

He congratulated the REA and the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, emphasizing that the partnership would support Nigeria’s vision for the renewable energy sector.

Adelabu highlighted the importance of this collaboration, particularly in addressing energy access and job creation in Nigeria, a country with a large population. He praised the initiative as being in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister stressed that President Tinubu has prioritized the power sector as the foundation for progress in other critical areas of the economy, with a focus on expanding energy access and transitioning to sustainable, cleaner energy sources.
