On Thursday, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, stated that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is a vital and indispensable revenue collection agent as the country navigates the path to economic recovery.
Oba Olakulehin made this remark at his Oke Aremo palace while receiving the Customs Area Controller for the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, and his team during a courtesy visit.
Speaking through the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Amidu Ajibade, the Olubadan emphasized that as Nigeria seeks economic recovery, it cannot do without the revenue collection capabilities of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He noted that the Customs Service has significantly enhanced revenue collection and improved the nationwide prevention and suppression of smuggling in recent years.
“Nigeria Customs is the major revenue-collecting agent for the Nigerian government. Nigeria, as a country, cannot do without the Customs Service,” he said. “After the money generated through oil, the next in order is the revenue coming from the customs. That is why our country will continue to find the customs service indispensable,” Oba Olakulehin added.
Earlier, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the Customs Area Controller for the Oyo/Osun Area Command, explained that they visited the palace to seek the support of the Olubadan for effective service delivery in their area of jurisdiction and to receive the royal father’s blessings.
