  • Former Ogun State Finance Commissioner Morenike Babington-Ashaye warns that increasing VAT to 10% will worsen economic problems for Nigerians
  • Babington-Ashaye criticizes the government’s lack of sensitivity regarding rising fuel prices, which already burden citizens struggling to meet basic needs

Former Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State and founder/president of the International Centre for Tax Research and Development, Mrs. Morenike Babington-Ashaye, has advised the federal government against implementing the newly increased 10 percent Value Added Tax (VAT). She warned that doing so would create more economic problems for Nigerians.

Mrs. Babington-Ashaye made this statement on Thursday in Lagos while introducing her new book titled “Natural World Restoration.” The book, she explained, is a compilation of revelations she received about global developments and God’s plan to restore natural order between 2024 and 2030. She suggested that the book should be read alongside the Ten Commandments.

She criticized the proposed increase in VAT from 7.5 to 10 percent, arguing that it shows the federal government’s lack of sensitivity to Nigerians’ struggles.

“The 7.5 percent VAT increment is already creating problems, so increasing it to 10 percent would only worsen things,” she stated.
