The Edo State Police Command has begun a campaign to seize illegal arms and ammunition ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state. The command spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, shared this development, quoting the Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, during a meeting on Saturday in Benin with the chairmen of political parties and their respective governorship candidates.

Commissioner Iwo stated that the operation’s objective is to ensure the security of the electoral process. He appealed to political leaders to urge their supporters to avoid any form of violence during the upcoming election.

He further assured the public of adequate security measures to enable citizens to vote without fear of harassment or intimidation. The commissioner also reiterated that the police, alongside other security agencies, would work to protect all stakeholders, including electoral materials, to ensure a peaceful election.

Additionally, he called for public cooperation, seeking information that could help the police create a safe environment for the election process.
