- Powerful accused the governors of colluding with Emeka Offor’s EEDC company to restrict alternative power sources
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to reverse the tax on generator and solar energy usage.
In a statement issued Monday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB described the tax as “anti-people and anti-economic.” Powerful condemned the tax on citizens generating power through solar and other sources, calling it punitive.
“Governors Mbah and Uzodinma have proven their intention to impoverish Ndigbo by imposing this unfair energy tax,” Powerful stated. “In a functional country, providing reliable electricity is the government’s duty. Instead, citizens are being penalized for generating their own power, a responsibility the government should bear.”
Powerful further accused the governors of colluding with Emeka Offor’s EEDC company to restrict alternative power sources. “This collaboration forces people to rely on EEDC’s erratic supply, stifling economic growth in Alaigbo,” he alleged.
IPOB called for an immediate end to the tax, urging the government to support those using alternative energy rather than punishing them. “This tax is not only unjust but a clear act of economic sabotage against the Southeast.”
