Personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service are protesting against the government.
They are unhappy about the delay in implementing salary and promotion arrears for newly promoted officers.
The staff members, who didn’t want to be named, spoke to Daily Sun reporter on Monday.
They said there are inequalities and inconsistencies in how promotion and salary payments are handled among various paramilitary services.
One officer said the Nigerian Correctional Service has been promoting staff for three years without paying their salary arrears.
“It is shocking that some officers were promoted in December 2023 without proper placement or the payment of promotion arrears.
Almost ten months later, nothing has been done to fix this issue,” the officer said.
The officer noted that the Immigration Service and Fire Service have been processing promotions and salary payments on time since March 2023.
This shows a big difference in how the paramilitary forces are treated.
The officer asked the Minister of Interior to step in quickly to prevent the situation from getting worse.
He called it social injustice, inequality, and unfairness towards NSCDC and Correctional Service officers.
He suggested a thorough investigation into the implementation of promotion and salary arrears.
The Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Services, the Commandant General of NSCDC, and the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) should be held accountable for the discrepancies in payment processing.
