A former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has revealed that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, is under investigation for suspected terrorism financing and related crimes.

Amachree made the disclosure on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme. He stated that Ajaero is being investigated by the DSS and should not be allowed to leave Nigeria while the probe continues.

The NLC leader was reportedly detained by the DSS on Monday at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport as he was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom for official duties. Ajaero was held in custody throughout the day but was released later that night.

Amachree explained, “There is an ongoing investigation. He (Ajaero) cannot leave the country… For terrorism financing, which he has been accused of, he cannot leave the country.”

The former DSS official further pointed to Ajaero’s connection with Andrew Wynne, a person allegedly involved in terrorism financing, who is said to be a tenant of Ajaero.
