According to Eguavoen, his “mandate was for two games”.
The technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, took charge after attempts to hire a substanstive head coach for the national team did not materialise.

Speaking at the Kigali Airport after the game, Eguavoen refused to be drawn into preparations for Nigeria’s next game against Libya.
He said: “I have been given a mandate to handle two games.
“I will want to say I am very pleased with the boys and again, thanks to the NFF leadersip and all the boys who supported me.
“It ends today. I can’t talk about Libya, because I haven’t been told about it.”
