  • Earlier, on Friday, Muktar Betara, a member of the house of representatives, donated N100 million to flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno state, aiming to alleviate the disaster’s impact.

Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Group, has contributed N1.5 billion to aid flood-affected residents in Maiduguri, Borno state.

On Tuesday, a massive evacuation effort took place as floodwaters inundated large areas of Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin in Maiduguri.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the devastating flood has claimed over 30 lives and displaced more than 400,000 people in the state capital.

The Borno state government has established internally displaced persons (IDP) camps to provide shelter for those affected across the state.

During a visit to assess the damage in Maiduguri, Dangote explained that N1 billion was allocated to NEMA to collaborate with the Borno state government.

“I want to clarify that we have a flood committee. NEMA sent us a letter, and we approved N1 billion to support their efforts with the Borno State government,” he stated.

“Additionally, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will provide an extra N500 million, making it a total of N1.5 billion. Thank you.”

Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa, also announced the donation of an unspecified number of trucks carrying relief materials to support the Borno state government.
