  • The Gwada and Kuta IDP camps house thousands of internally displaced persons, highlighting ongoing insecurity and humanitarian challenges in the region

A total of 46,853 farmers from 5,863 households have been displaced due to banditry, terrorism, flooding, and communal clashes across Niger State. This data was provided by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), revealing that some of the displacements have been ongoing since 2018.

The breakdown of the affected individuals includes 5,863 men, 23,450 women, and 17,540 children.

The agency further detailed that 5,823 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are at the Gwada IDP camp, including 970 men, 2,051 women, and 2,802 children. The Kuta IDP camp also houses 3,180 displaced farmers, consisting of 530 men, 1,040 women, and 1,610 children. Both camps were established in October 2018 in response to the state’s growing insecurity and displacement issues.
