  • PDP Acting Chairman Umar Damagum emphasizes the Edo governorship election as a crucial test for Nigeria’s democracy, urging security agencies to ensure fairness
  • Key speakers at the rally, including Atiku Abubakar, stress the importance of protecting votes and maintaining the integrity of the election process

Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has declared that the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, will be a critical test for Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking at the grand finale of the PDP campaign rally in Benin, Damagum called on security agencies to maintain professionalism and ensure fairness throughout the election process.

He emphasized that the people of Edo State have embraced the PDP’s candidate and urged security operatives to uphold their responsibilities as taxpayers fund them.

The Chairman of the National Campaign Council for the Edo election, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the election and encouraging citizens to vote in large numbers.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State highlighted the election’s significance, referring to it as an “existential threat” and warning that the state could not afford to reverse the progress made under the PDP administration.
