  • PDP Acting Chairman Damagum vows to defend votes in Edo election fiercely, warns INEC against midnight result announcement
  • PDP candidate Ighodalo pledges to build on Obaseki’s foundation as Atiku urges supporters to protect their votes

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Illiya Damagum, declared that PDP members will fiercely defend their votes in the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State. He made this statement during the grand finale of the PDP’s campaign in the state, while presenting the party’s flag to its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Damagum also strongly warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging them to avoid announcing election results at midnight, a practice that has raised concerns in past elections. He said, “We will be vigilant and ensure it doesn’t happen. We will defend our votes with our blood and everything.”

He called on Nigerian citizens to closely monitor the Edo election, stressing its importance as a test for the country’s democracy. He warned that any attempt to compromise the election could lead to unrest.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, who chairs the PDP National Campaign Council, reinforced this message, stating that PDP would not be intimidated or rigged out of the election.

The PDP candidate, Ighodalo, expressed his commitment to building on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s foundation. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emphasized that the election would demonstrate that “Edo is not Lagos,” urging supporters to protect their votes.

Prominent PDP figures, including governors, senators, and party leaders, attended the event to support Ighodalo’s candidacy.
