The federal government has announced plans to divide the 115 Federal Unity Colleges into basic and secondary schools.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, revealed this during the opening of the Annual General Meeting of Principals of Unity Colleges in Abuja. The event was themed “Entrepreneurship Education: A Panacea for Self-Reliance and National Development.”

Dr. Sununu explained that the unbundling of Unity Colleges aligns with the National Policy on Education. This initiative aims to attract more funding for infrastructure improvements, enhance teachers’ welfare, and create employment opportunities.

He assured that the Ministry of Education, with the help of other government agencies, would expedite the process. He also called on the Principals to collaborate as key stakeholders in transforming the educational landscape.
