The presidency has reacted to reports that President Bola Tinubu asked Yemi Cardoso to step down from his position as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Speaking on the reports, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the reports are false.

In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, Onanuga described the reports as a bundle of lies, saying that Tinubu never ordered Cardoso’s resignation.

He wrote: “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga said.

The report had said that President Tinubu issued the directive to Cardoso before departing for China, despite efforts by influential Yoruba leaders to keep him in the position.

Recall that the CBN governor had come under criticism for his inability to address the ongoing economic challenges and stabilise the Naira.
