  • President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts against cybercriminals and organized crime, ensuring Nigeria is not a haven for illicit wealth
  • The directive follows the EFCC’s recent handover of stolen vehicles and cash to Canadian authorities, highlighting international collaboration against cybercrime

President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify their crackdown on cybercriminals and organized crime syndicates in Nigeria, emphasizing that the country will not be a safe haven for illicit wealth.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the directive in a statement on Sunday. Tinubu instructed agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), to strengthen their efforts against individuals involved in the trafficking of stolen vehicles and other criminal activities.

The President’s statement followed the recent handover of 53 vehicles and $180,300 by the EFCC to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on behalf of two Canadian citizens who fell victim to Nigerian cybercriminals.

Commending the EFCC for its collaboration with international partners, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating all forms of crime. He stressed the importance of depriving criminals of their illicit gains, ensuring that seized assets are preserved for the benefit of the state, society, and victims.
