Eight young girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution have been rescued and returned to Nigeria.

The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this known on Friday.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the rescued girls are now in the care of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.

According to her, NAPTIP would ensure that they have safe and comfortable accommodations pending their formal rehabilitation and reuniting with their families.

She made this known when she received the young ladies aged between 15 and 22 at the NiDCOM Annex Office in Lagos.

The rescued girls hail from various states across Nigeria, including Ebonyi, Akwa-Ibom, Imo, Plateau, and Cross River.

They were allegedly lured to Ghana under false promises of employment but were forced into sexual exploitation.

She noted that there are still many more trafficked victims waiting to be rescued and thanked the Ghanaian security agencies for their cooperation.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Nigerian, Favour Ugwu, one of the traffickers, was arrested and jailed for eight years by a court in Ghana on account of human trafficking.
