The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of five police officers who were killed in an accident while returning from an official assignment in Edo State.

Speaking in Bichi, Kano State, on Saturday, Ganduje extended his condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Inspector General of Police, describing the loss as a painful moment for the Police Force and the nation.

“We are here not for celebrations but to console the bereaved families, the IGP, and the entire Kano community over the loss of these officers who died in active national service,” Ganduje stated.

The former Kano governor noted that the APC and his administration have a long-standing tradition of standing by families during periods of grief, providing comfort and support to make them feel they are not alone in their sorrow.

The accident, which occurred two weeks ago, claimed the lives of five officers and left ten others with varying degrees of injuries. Ganduje, deeply moved by the incident, said he felt compelled to visit Bichi personally due to the magnitude of the tragedy.

“The officers gallantly died while serving the nation, and I felt it was necessary to come down to Bichi to pay my respects,” he said.

During his visit, Ganduje also reaffirmed his recognition of Bichi as a First-Class Emirate Council, stating, “As far as I’m concerned, Bichi has a First-Class Emir.”

In a gesture of support, the APC chairman donated N2 million to the families of the five deceased officers, while the ten injured officers received N1 million each.

Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, who accompanied Ganduje, expressed his own grief over the loss, noting that the tragedy was a personal blow as the officers were members of his constituency.

“I feel the pain of those who died and left their families behind. This is a loss for the entire Bichi community and beyond,” Abubakar said.
