Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football with France.

The 33-year-old has decided to call time on his international career with Les Bleus, releasing a statement on social media confirming his decision to step down from France duties.

Alongside a video highlight reel, Griezmann wrote on his X account: “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon.”

Griezmann retires as one of the most decorated players in French history, boasting the third-highest number of caps (137) and fourth-highest number of goals (44). He won the Golden Boot as France reached the final of Euro 2016 on home soil, where he scored six times to also claim the Player of the Tournament Award.

He claimed the tournament’s Silver Boot and Bronze Ball awards. Griezmann also reached the World Cup final with France in 2022, where Didier Deschamps’ side lost to Argentina on penalties, leading the Qatar tournament for assists.

His career with France also saw him win a record-breaking 84 caps without missing a single game.

Griezmann’s focus will now be with success at Atletico Madrid, where he is the Spanish’s side’s all-time record goalscorer.
