The Nigerian Navy has arrested six individuals involved in illegal oil bunkering operations in Bayelsa State as part of its ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 2, 2024, the Navy reported that personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH apprehended three suspects with two fibre boats and one wooden boat laden with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Igbomotoru, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.

In a separate operation in Bassambiri, another three individuals were arrested by a naval patrol team while allegedly engaging in illegal bunkering activities. A large wooden boat loaded with refined products was seized, and the suspects were also transferred to the NSCDC for further interrogation.

The Navy emphasized that it will continue to intensify its efforts to curb illegal oil activities and protect Nigeria’s maritime resources.
