  • Isiaka expressed the readiness of the state government to host a befitting festival.
  • He added that the facilities would be top-notch and would attract national and international events.

The Ogun government has initiated upgrades at the MKO Abiola stadium and Alake Sports Centre, ahead of the National Sport Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta.

The NSF competition, dubbed ‘2024 Gateway Games’, is slated for January 12-26, 2025.

After inspecting facilities, Sports Development Commissioner Wasiu Isiaka guaranteed timely completion and pre-event testing of renovation projects.

“The scraping of the pitch at the main bowl of the stadium, the removal of the tartan tracks, as well as the roofs at the indoor hall of the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, are ongoing simultaneously,” Isiaka said.

Renovations will expand the VIP section, add an Olympic-sized pool, tennis and handball courts, bolstering the state’s sports and youth development initiatives.

Isiaka emphasized empowering young people drives progress, adding that the NSF unites top athletes, inspires future generations, and showcases rich cultural heritage.

“Massive renovation will enhance local athletes’ skills, demonstrate the state’s commitment to hosting the National Sports Festival, and leave a lasting legacy,” he said.

“I urge corporate organizations and individuals to support the government in making the NSF a resounding success.”

“The Sports Festival is an opportunity for the state to showcase its talent, potential, and hospitality to the world.”

Isiaka assured the state is fully prepared to host a world-class festival, boasting top-quality facilities that attract national and international events.
