  • Wike lamented that some Nigerians accused him of derailing democracy, stating that such accusations should be directed at Fubara

Minister of the Federal Capital, Territory Nyesom Wike, has revealed the provenance of the political crisis ravaging Rivers State and his feud with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike disclosed that the crisis in the state was a direct result of Fubara’s move to remove the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule but the plan boomerang.

The minister made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

“Have Fubara told you I demanded any money from him? I have never done that.

“The problem is that he plotted a coup to remove the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the thing boomerang against him,” Wike said.

Wike also expressed dissatisfaction with the recent conduct of local government elections in the troubled State, saying he was sad the country’s democracy is being derailed.

Wike lamented that some Nigerians accused him of derailing democracy, stating that such accusations should be directed at Fubara.

Wike accused Fubara of disobeying court judgement stopping him from conducting the recently concluded local government election, saying the governor’s actions undermine democracy.

He said: “I feel so bad today, in Nigeria, you hear a lot of people who say that nobody should derail democracy. Let us ask ourselves, who is derailing democracy? Who intends to derail democracy?

“Is it the man who said the judgement of court should not be respected that is promoting democracy?

“I have heard the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar”; I have heard the former President, Goodluck Jonathan talking about the derailment of democracy. Atiku even said he praised Fubara.”
